winter wonderland watercolor

This may not have turned out quite like I envisioned, but the kids still had a lot of fun. This was my first time doing a crayon resist/watercolour project and obviously next time we do it I'll have to push harder with the crayon. The watercolour paint wasn't resisting the crayon too well and it's pretty hard to see the snowflakes. It's still really pretty though and the kids loved it. Here's how you make it:

What you'll need:

watercolor paper
watercolor paints
paintbrush
water
white crayon

Directions:

1. using a white crayon, draw snowflakes on your paper. Remember to press really hard so the paint will resist the crayon.
2. let your children paint the paper and hopefully the snowflakes will show from underneath.
3. allow to dry and admire your masterpiece!

  1. It still looks pretty! We have had the best results with oil pastel crayons; you don't have to worry about pushing down hard with those.

  5. We made a similar one.... all our white crayon ones always turn out like yours; wonder what kind others use that actually show up? :D I love the colors you chose.

  9. Love working with white crayons. Tried it a while back with my son, but he "wasn't in the mood", so got nowhere. Need to do it again! I am sure he would love it!

Thanks again for the link up!

  10. I think it turned out great! I admire moms who take the time to do crafty things with their kids. Something I'm trying to do more of. The colors are really pretty too.
