Happy Friday everyone! This is another lunch I made a long time ago and I'm just getting around to posting it now. Around the time I made this lunch Cam was OBSESSED with toy story. He still absolutely loves all 3 movies. I thought it would be fun to make him a rocket ship lunch. He really loved it. The shapes are all cut out using a great cutter set I purchased from All Things for Sale (link in sidebar). Here's how I made this lunch:

Ham sandwich cut into circle shape. Rocket shape cut out of ham with tomato rocket flames. Sprinkle decorations and cheese stars. Yogurt with a space ship cut out of fruit leather. Rocket shaped cucumbers with a mini silicone cup of ranch dressing for dipping.

sandpaper starfish

This was another super fun summer craft. I picked up some cheap sandpaper at the dollar store, cut out some starfish shapes, and the kids had a blast decorating them with glue and glitter. So simple and so cute. I just love the texture the sandpaper gives these starfish. The kids thought the sandpaper was really cool too. They hadn't felt that rough paper before. Here's how we made them:

What you'll need:

sandpaper
regular paper
scissors
glue
glitter
googly eyes

Directions:

1. cut some starfish shapes out of your sandpaper
2. glue your starfish on some regular paper - we used pretty scrapbook paper that Kirsten thought looked like water
3. cover the front of your starfish in glue
4. sprinkle your starfish with all kinds of glitter
5. once your starfish have been sufficiently glittered up, shake off the excess over the sink or a garbage
6. glue on some googly eyes and put on a glitter glue smile
7. allow to dry

fun food friday: sandcastle at the beach

funfood52

This one didn't turn out quite as I had envisioned it would. I thought a sandcastle made out of a tortilla was brilliant and makes a great summer lunch. It just didn't turn out exactly like I thought it would. I kind of burned the sandcastle quesadilla which didn't help the matter either. The kids still thought this lunch was pretty fun. They absolutely love quesadillas so they had no problems eating it. It was a very simple lunch to make. Here's how I made it:

sandcastle cheese quesadilla - take 2 white tortillas and using clean scissors, cut into a sandcastle shape. Tortillas are incredibly easy to cut into any shape with scissors. There are so many possibilities! Place some cheese between your tortilla shapes (or anything else you want - I often add chicken, tomatoes, etc) and grill until lightly browned and cheese is melted - not burned like mine!

blueberry water with a few goldfish and an orange sun.

Have a great weekend everyone!

seashell crabs

Another seashell craft! This was the craft we made to go along with our "Under the Sea" fun food friday. There's just so many cute little things you can make with seashells. Here's how we made them:

What you'll need:

seashells
red paint
paint brush
googly eyes
glue - I used my hot glue gun

Directions:

1. paint your seashells red and allow to dry
2. glue 2 spiral seashells to another seashell to make the crab claws
3. glue on 2 googly eyes

Easy and fun!

fun food friday: under the sea

Happy Friday everyone! I just love the way this one turned out and it really couldn't have been easier. The kids just adored it and ate every single bite. I actually made this lunch to go along with a craft we made, which I'll share soon. Here's how you can make this adorable and really easy lunch:

crab - peanut butter on a bagel, cut in half. Cut the 2nd half in half again and cut a small triangle off 1 end of each. Arrange the pieces to look like a crab. Icing eyes.

Blueberry "water" with a red apple starfish, kiwi octopus and goldfish crackers. I used sliced small marshmallows for the eyes with food safe markers.

I got the octopus cutter in an adorable set from All Things for Sale - link in my sidebar.

love these kids

Pin It Those with little ones know that it isn't often you get both kids sitting together, willing to smile for the camera and being nice to each other. I had to snap a couple pics. I love them!

beach toy puppets

We've all seen the adorable spoon puppets being made out there. Well, I figured we could make some pretty cute puppets out of some of our extra beach toys. The kids absolutely loved making these with me and are still playing with them. We only made 2 to start, but because they love them so much I imagine we'll be making more in the near future. They are pretty cute if I do say so myself! Here's how you can make your own puppets:

What you'll need:

beach toys - shovels, rakes, etc.
glue
decorations - googly eyes, yarn, buttons, whatever you want!

Directions:

Just glue some adorable decorations on your beach toys to make adorable summer puppets! That's it! Couldn't be easier.

I want to ride my bicycle....

I am so behind on posting things! I took these pictures of the kids probably over a month ago. Kirsten got a new bike for her birthday and she absolutely adores it. She has done so well riding her big girl bicycle and we're so proud of her. Poor little Cam got Kirsten's hand-me-down Dora tricycle. It may not be the most boyish bike, but boy does he love it. At least he has his beloved toy story helmet and elbow pads. Love these kids.

fun food friday: a snail of a snack

funfood50

To go along with the seashell snails we made (see below), I also made the kids a snail lunch. I figured little pinwheels sandwiches would make the perfect snail shells. Too bad my kids weren't really a fan of them. Camden wouldn't even try them and Kirsten only had a couple bites. Oh well, they can't all be winners. I filled them with salsa and cream cheese, and next time I try them I'll just use meat and cheese. I still think it was super cute. Here's how I made this lunch:

snails - pinwheel sandwiches on tortillas with grape heads, almonds and icing eyes, moving along a stalk of celery. Chopped celery on the "ground."
flower silicone cups filled with yogurt and sprinkles and red grapes.

seashell snails

Kirsten and I made these adorable little seashell snails, or as she likes to call them - Mr. Twisters. She calls pipe cleaners twisters, so I guess that's where the name came from? While we were walking through our dollar store a couple months ago she found bags of various seashells and wanted them really badly. I was pretty sure that I could come up with at least a few crafts to make with them so I happily obliged. Stay tuned for more seashell crafts to come. They're just too easy and cute. Here's how we made these adorable little snails:

What you'll need:

seashells
pom poms
pipe cleaners
googly eyes
smooth stone
glue - I used our hot glue gun

Directions:

1. glue the bottom of your seashell to your smooth bottomed stone. This will give it something to stabilize it.
2. glue a small pom pom on the stone coming in close contact with the shell
3. cut a piece of pipe cleaner to the desired length, bend it in a 'U' shape, put some glue on it and slip it between the shell and pom pom. Allow to dry.
4. glue some googly eyes to each antennae

funfood49

Happy Canada Day to my fellow Canadian readers. I was excited when I realized that Canada Day was going to fall on a Friday, and I just knew I had to make a special lunch for the kids to celebrate our wonderful country. This lunch was really easy to make and the kids really loved it. Here's how I made it:

Peanut butter sandwich cut into circle. Maple leaf red apple. Bowl of vanilla yogurt with maple leaf sprinkles. Maple leaf jello jigglers.

I hope all my readers have a wonderful and safe holiday weekend!
