This is the first post of many fun St. Patrick's day activities we've been up to in my house. Most people have heard of shamrock shakes, but I wanted to make the kids a yummy green smoothie. I just used whatever I had on hand at home and added just a wee bit of green food colouring to make it just a wee bit more green. The kids absolutely adored them - as did I. We all love smoothies in this house. Here is how you make them:

Ingredients:
3 bananas, sliced and frozen
3 kiwis, sliced
1 cup vanilla yogurt
milk to desired thickness
small bit of green food colouring (optional)
whipped cream
rainbow sprinkles
Directions:
1. place your frozen banana, kiwi, yogurt and milk in the blender and blend until smooth.
2. pour into cups and garnish with whipped cream clouds and rainbow sprinkles.

ReplyDeleteWe make similar smoothies at home almost every day. But instead of green food coloring, we add a handful (or 2) of fresh baby spinach. I guarantee your kids would never even know it was spinach instead of food coloring!
ReplyDeleteAnd I think we will definitely need to dress ours up with whipped cream and sprinkles for st. patty's day!
Yum! What a great recipe! Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteI make kale smoothies and the kids have no idea because they taste like banana!
ReplyDeleteI never used food coloring in any food actually. I use the coloring provided by the nature. I would use kale for that: rich green color guaranteed!
ReplyDeleteWhere did you get those fun cups?
ReplyDeleteYum! These look so cute too!
ReplyDeleteI'll definitely put these on my need to try list. It looks yummy. Thanks for the good idea.
ReplyDeleteThanks ladies!
ReplyDeleteLynette - I actually got the cups at the dollar store. I love that place, lol!
Thanks for the suggestions of using spinach and kale ladies. I probably never use them because I'm not really a fan of them myself. But, if you guys say you can't taste it, then I guess I should bite the bullet and give it a try. Thanks!
The dollar store!? That's the perfect price, haha. I'll have to look at the stores around me to see if they have them. Thanks!
ReplyDeletehow did I miss this one??? the girlies will LOVE this on St. Patty's day!!!

ReplyDeleteThanks ladies!
ReplyDeleteYUM! Can I just say I love you for writing a post about a green drink that is not mint. My daughter doesn't like mint, so this would be the perfect drinkable treat for her on St. Patty's Day!
