fun food friday: say cheeeeese

funfoodfriday92

Okay, so I know I said last week's fun food friday might be the last one for awhile. I lost a lot of fun food friday's I had already made when my computer's hard drive crashed, and to be totally honest, I've been lacking some motivation there for awhile too. I'm sure I'll jump back on the band wagon again soon. I did find some motivation this week though... I was at the bulk store last weekend, when I saw another kind of lip pops. It was like it was fate. As soon as I saw this cheesy little smile, I had to scoop it right up. Kirsten had Spring picture day at school this week, and I thought it would be hilarious to make her a huge cheesey-faced smile sandwich. Kirsten tends to do pretty cheesey smile herself when she is forced to smile, lol. Both of the kids thought this was really cute. If you haven't seen my posts, I've made quite a few lunches lately using the leftover plastic piece from lip pop lollipops. I think they're really great. Those posts can be seen here and here.

Here's how I made this lunch:

Chicken and cheese sandwich cut into circle shape. Fruit leather eyebrows, cheese and fruit leather eyes, lip pop smile, and carrot stick hair. Super easy and a hit with the kids!

fun food friday: it's mater!

funfoodfriday91

This may be the last fun food friday post for a bit, unless I get my act in gear. I had so many fun food friday posts saved on my old computer, and well, they're gone now. It bums me out so much, I've kind of lost my motivation for now. I only have this one because it was on my camera's memory card. This was the one I was supposed to post last week. Hopefully I'll feel inspired to make more fun food friday's this week - no promises though. I think I need to stop being angry and start getting productive again. It's just so frustrating knowing how many I've lost :-( Anyway, this fun food friday was for my little man. He's a big fan of cars, so I knew he would love this sandwich. It all started with the bunny lip pops a couple weeks ago, and then I remembered that I had those same lollipops with mater teeth on them. Cam got a couple in his stocking at Christmas. I saved the teeth for some reason and had no idea what I was going to do with them, but knew there must be something. So glad I came across the brilliant idea to use them for bento and sandwiches. Making a mater sandwich is still a little bit of work and cutting, but the teeth just give it that extra something special without any effort at all. Anyone who knows me, knows I love the easy way. Quick, easy and fun is generally my motto. I don't really have instructions on how to make mater. It was more or less a ham and swiss cheese sandwich, that I turned into mater by using a knife and a lot of cutting. The crust was used for details like the bumper, wheels, mirrors, etc. I used 2 cucumber mini circles for the eyes and a swiss cheese circle for mater's 1 good headlight. The mater teeth brought it all together simply and easily. They stick right into the sandwich and stay there nicely until your kiddo takes it out. They are washable and reusable and just perfect! Here's what they look like:

fun food friday: the tortoise and the hare

Funfoodfriday90

This is not the post I had planned for today. It's an extremely sad day for me today. The hard drive has crashed on my computer, and I may have lost everything. I certainly don't have access to anything right now. I'm really not trying to be dramatic, but I had EVERYTHING on that computer. I still have my iPad, but none of my pictures are on it. I'm bringing it to a repair place today and I pray they can fix it and recover everything on my hard drive. If not, it may be awhile before you see another post on here. I had about 2 months worth of unposted blog posts saved in there and I will be devastated if I lost them - not to mention all my kiddos pictures. Say a little prayer for me, will you? Anyway, I found this lunch on my pictures on my iPad and figured I would post it today. It's not the one I planned for today, but it's the only one I have access to right now that I haven't already posted. Here's how I made this lunch:

The tortoise and hare were cut from tortillas using cookie cutters. I made them into cheese quesadillas. I used icing eyes and a heart sprinkle nose on the bunny. There was a silicone cup of baby carrots, a small silicone cup of ketchup to dip their quesadillas, and a silicone container of applesauce with heart sprinkles.

Hopefully I'll be back to blogging soon! Have a great weekend everyone!

fun food friday: the no tools required bunny lunch

funfoodfriday89

Lots of people want to make fun foods for their kids, but think they can't because they don't have any fancy cookie cutters, cute little picks, or colorful silicone cups. Although having that stuff certainly doesn't hurt in the cute food department, it's certainly not essential either. You can definitely make your kiddos an easy and adorable lunch using nothing but a regular kitchen knife. This sweet little bunny sandwich is a perfect example of that. I didn't use any fancy tools and I was able to throw this lunch together in just a couple quick minutes. Anyone can make this easy lunch for their kiddos. Here is how I made it:

Half a toasted English muffin with peanut butter. 2 blueberry eyes, a sliced strawberry nose, matchstick carrot whiskers and sliced apple ears. Couldn't be easier and the kids loved it!

Happy Friday everyone!

fun food friday: the 1 minute bunny lunch

funfoodfriday88

I know a lot of people wonder how on earth I possibly have the time to make all these cute foods all the time. I see the comments sometimes "this lady has way too much time on her hands!" The truth is, I have no time on my hands. Most of the time I am extremely exhausted. I work full-time, Monday to Friday outside the home. I only have time with my kids on the evenings and weekends. When I'm with my kids though, I make sure we do special things together because I miss that precious time with them during the day. Making your kids lunches cute doesn't have to be time consuming though. No word of a lie, this lunch probably took me 1 minute to make. I saw this incredibly awesome idea on Tiffany's blog Cute Food for Kids last year. If you haven't already, definitely check out her blog. She has amazing ideas and is so creative with food. That girl can turn a babybel cheese into anything!! Anyway, she had the idea of using the bunny lip pops from Easter for making cute bunny lunches. Absolutely brilliant. I can turn a plain sandwich into a bunny in 5 seconds flat. I already had a few of these lip pops hanging around from last Easter and it never occurred to me to use them for fun food. That's why I love the internet - so many amazing ideas out there. Pick yourself up some bunny lip pops this Easter and once the lollipop part is gone, save them for lunches! Here's how I made this 1 minute bunny lunch.

Spread two pieces of bread with peanut butter and cut into a circle. Stick your bunny lip pop pick through the sandwich. Add 2 icing eyes. I used matchstick carrots for the whiskers and 2 slices of apple for the ears.

Go ahead and make one for your kiddo! You would spend at least that amount of time making any lunch for them and they will absolutely love it!

In case you are not familiar, this is what the bunny lip pops look like:

They come in a package as a lollipop. Once the lollipop is finished, wash the plastic bunny face and save it!

fun food friday: breakfast lady

DSC_0502 copy-2-cs3-blog

Happy Friday everyone! Sorry about the lame title, but I am exhausted. I even have to work late today too because I had to leave work early yesterday because Cam is sick. Poor little thing. This is going to be a LONG Friday. Can't wait for the weekend! This little breakfast lady was really simple to make and I think it turned out pretty adorable. Here is how I made it:

Piece of buttered toast cut into circle with scrambled egg hair. In the hair there is a little cheese crown. The face was decorated with a ketchup smile, and cheese eyes with a food safe marker dot.

Silicone muffin cup filled with fruit salad, and silicone muffin cup filled with yogurt with a heart-shaped strawberry.

Here are some of the supplies I used (or similar) to make this breakfast:

fun food friday: shamrock lad and lassie

funfoodfriday86

I made the kids this sweet little St. Patty's day lunch last week and they just loved it. I used a shamrock cutter to cut some white and green tortillas and used them to make the kids some quesadillas. Shaped quesadillas are so easy and fun to make - the possibilities are really endless. Here is how I made this lunch:

Shamrock cheese quesadillas on spinach and plain tortillas. I used food markers for their faces, apple hats, carrot hair and beards and a sprinkle on the hats.

Silicone muffin cups filled with lucky charms cereal, and yogurt with shamrock sprinkles.

Gold banana coins around the plate.

fun food friday: somewhere over the rainbow

funfoodfriday85

I *think* I may have already used that title last year, but it's 5:30 AM and I'm too tired and lazy to check. So, this may be a somewhere over the rainbow, part 2. This one is a breakfast though, so it's definitely different. Besides chopping up the fruit, this breakfast was incredibly easy to make and didn't require any fancy tools to make it - just a regular kitchen knife. My kids love fruit, so they thought this was a real treat. This would make a great St. Patty's day breakfast. Here's how I made it:

Rainbow - sliced strawberries, oranges, pineapple, kiwi, blueberries and purple grapes

White toast cut into cloud shape with a knife and a sunny side up egg sun.

Happy Friday everyone!

fun food friday: Happy Birthday Dr. Seuss

funfoodfriday84

Today, March 2nd, is Dr. Seuss' birthday. We are huge fans of a lot of his books in this house. Last year we had a whole Dr. Seuss celebration for his birthday, but this year I saw that his birthday was on a Friday, so I just had to make the kids a fun lunch using the themes from a few of our favourite books. I had a lot of fun making this one. It actually turned out a lot better than I imagined. That's always a pleasant surprise. This was surprising pretty easy to make - it's amazing what you can do with a tortilla and a pair of scissors! Here's how I made this lunch:

The Cat in the Hat - use 2 white tortillas and a pair of scissors. I printed out a picture of the Cat in the Hat and used my scissors to cut the shape out. I just eyeballed it and it turned out really well! I also cut a hat from the white tortilla. I spread peanut butter between the 2 tortillas and did strawberry jam stripes for the hat. I used my black food safe markers and drew on some fur and facial features. I used white cheese for the eyes, and fruit leather for the nose, whiskers and bow.

Green Eggs and Ham - I cut 2 ovals out of white cheese and stuck 2 green smarties on them. I then cut an oval out of a piece of ham and used my food safe marker and coloured it green.

One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish - I actually didn't have all those colours of fish, but I used a small silicone container and put some coloured goldfish crackers in it. Kirsten totally got what book I was referring to, which was pretty cool.

ABC - I used my small alphabet cutters and cut the letters out of fruit leather

fun food friday: a lunch fit for a princess

funfoodfriday83

Here is another lunch made with my awesome lunches punches. The lunch punches seriously make creating a cute lunch for your kiddos so simple. It literally takes seconds to punch your sandwiches into adorable shapes. This was a lunch for my little princess and she absolutely adored it. Here's how I made it:

Ham and cheese sandwich cut with the princess lunch punch. I also cut a piece of cheese with it so the princess has a cheese crown and star wand. I put flower sprinkles on the princess wings and a heart sprinkle mouth with chocolate sprinkle eyes. She also had a container of yogurt with sprinkles and a rice krispie treat wand with sprinkles. Wow! She sure got a lot of sprinkles with this lunch, lol. Oops. I cut the rice krispie treat into a star shape and stuck it on a lollipop stick. Kirsten was waving that thing around all lunch. She also had blueberries around the plate to give it a little more nutritional value.

Here are some of the supplies (or similar) that I used to make this lunch:

fun food friday: flower fun

funfoodfriday82

This was a really quick and easy lunch I threw together for the kids. I really love the lunch punch sets. You can quickly turn a sandwich into a work of art. They are sturdy and come in great designs. Here's how I made this lunch:

turkey bologna sandwich cut using the flower lunch punch - turkey bologna on top. Then I used the flower shape in the lunch punch to cut additional flowers out of cheese and turkey bologna and put large confetti sprinkles in the middle and used the 2 bread cut-outs as well. There was also a silicone flower cup filled with raspberries and a silicone flower cup filled with yogurt with a flower sprinkle.

Lunch punch makes all kinds of awesome sandwich cutters. This sandwich was made using the whimsical shapes set (the purple set). Each set comes with 4 sandwich punches and they come in the most adorable designs. Here are some of the other sets they have too:

I REALLY want the sweet set next (the last set). It's the newest set from Lunch Punch and uou can make ice cream cones, gumball machines, cakes and cupcakes. It looks awesome.

fun food friday: lovebird the lunch

Pin It Remember the lovebird craft we made last Valentine's day? Well I turned that little lovebird into a lovely little lunch. It was super easy to make and the kiddos thought it was super cute. Making the craft and then making the lunch would be a great afternoon activity for kiddos for Valentine's day.

lovebird

funfoodfriday81

Here's how I made it:

The lovebird is made using 2 white tortillas with chicken and cheese - I used my comfort grip heart cutter to cut the body out. I used a smaller heart cutter to cut the wing out of fruit leather and the tail feather out of cheese. I used an even smaller heart cutter to cut the head feathers out of cheese, the beak out of fruit leather and the feet out of fruit leather. I used licorice laces for the legs and an icing eye. There was also a silicone muffin cup filled with yogurt with heart sprinkles and one filled with fresh raspberries.

fun food friday: butterfly love

funfood80

I thought some cute little heart-shaped butterflies would make a cute little Valentine's lunch. This lunch was really simple and the kiddos thought it was really fun. It doesn't have to take a lot of time or effort to make a fun lunch for your kiddos. This lunch took under 5 minutes to make. Here's how I made this lunch:

Larger butterfly is made cutting hearts out of tortillas with ham and cheese in them. I used a cheesestring for the body, with fruit leather hearts on the wings and sprinkles for the eyes and antennae. The smaller butterfly has a carrot body and uses heart-shaped muffin silicone cups for the wings. The cups are filled with sliced apples and crinkle cut cucumbers.

fun food friday - I love you

funfood79

I actually made this lunch a really long time ago. Seeing as I hadn't posted it yet, I thought now would be a great time with Valentine's day coming up. I just love my alphabet cutters and my kids always want their toast cut into letters. Here's how I made this simple lunch:

The I and U were made using out of peanut butter toast and my alphbet cutters. I used a heart silicone cup in the middle filled with yogurt and Valentine's sprinkles. Fruit leather hearts all over the plate.

This post will be short and sweet because my little Cam is sick with strep throat right now. He is pretty sick and miserable right now so I'm rushing this post in while he is resting. This was a simple winter lunch to make and the kids thought it was delicious. Here's how I made it:

snowflakes - cheese quesadillas on white tortillas cut into snowflakes using my wilton comfort grip snowflake cutter. Silicone cup with a peeled clementine, silicone cup of yogurt with snowflake sprinkles, and a mini silicone cup with chocolate covered sunflower seeds.

fun food friday: cute little toadstools

funfood77

As soon as I saw those cute little toadstool mushroom silicone baking cups, I just had to have them. Practical, no. Cute, yes. I do have an obsession with these sorts of things. My bento/fun food friday supplies are getting a little out of control, lol. Anyway, these lunch was really fun to make and really easy too. Here's how I made it:

Big toadstool mushroom is 2 white tortillas cut into a mushroom shape using scissors. I filled it with peanut butter and spread strawberry jam on the outside. I used a tiny circle cutter to cut circles out of the leftover tortilla for the dots on the mushroom. I also used my food markers to draw on the face. The mushroom silicone cups are filled with applesauce and yogurt. I used one of my cute bento face cutters and cut faces out of fruit leather. Raspberries around the plate.

fun food friday: the cow jumped over the moon

funfood76

How about a super cute lunch to kick off our first fun food friday of 2012? How cute is this? I just loved the way it turned out. Another nursery rhyme turned cute. The kids absolutely adored this lunch. They are familiar with the nursery rhyme and Kirsten got it right away. She knew exactly what it was. This was actually really easy to make and here is how I made it:

To make the cow I took 2 white tortillas and using my scissors, cut out a cow shape. I cut the head separately. Then I filled the tortilla with lunchmeat and cheese. I used a whole banana as the moon. I think it worked perfectly. I used food safe markers to draw on the cow's spots, and the cow has cute little icing eyes. I used my tiny bento cutters from All Things for Sale to cut out the tiny details on the cow (udders, cow bell, ears, etc.) and also to cut out the cheese stars on the plate. I used fruit leather and cheese for the details.

Here are the sets I used for the cow's details from All Things for Sale - click on the picture to view them:
